WSUS Client not Reporting Status (0x80072efd)


Symptoms:
WSUS Client not reporting status to the WSUS server error 0x80072efd



After checking the network connection between WSUS server and Client, and if you are using proxy server, Recheck for some clues in the client workstation by reading the WindowsUpdate.log which is located under %windir% (windows directory).

There is a (0x80072efd) error in the log it means network or communication error between WSUS server and WSUS client.




Then check for the reportingEvent.log located under %windir%\SoftwareDistribution.

Sometimes the update transfer stuck because of network issues to resolve such issue simply delete all the files under %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\dowload & all the files in DataStore folder under the same directory.




The last step to force the client to check for update by running the following command through Run option in Start menu

%windir%\system32\wuauclt.exe /detectnow.


It should resume downloading the updates during the next 24 hours and reporting normally to the WSUS server.



To be sure you triggered the WU (Windows Update) service open WindowsUpdate.log Under %windir%WindowsUpdate.log
